I have two suggestions:
You can decorate them with glass paints, beads, glass tiles, etc and use them as candle holders.
You can make spice mixes, like for chili, soup, rib rub, etc and put them in the jars and include a recipe to use the spice mix.

i need some ideas on cheap semi easy crafts i can make and give for gifts (example cake in a jar. but i cant find any jars!!) please help i really want them to be special from the heart
The jars for cake mixes, cookie mixes, etc can be any kind. Mayo jars work admirably for this.
The thing is in the decorating of the jar! You can get some of those cute decals, cheap, and put them on the clean jar, you can get the etching stuff and do an etched design on the very plain jane jars. You can use a bit of fabric and ruined stockings for padding the lid with some ribbon or lace around it.
You can also make a sleeve to put on the jar from your computer and printer with a picture of what you have in the jar, ie: cake, and the instructions for cooking it. Use tape to secure the sleeve to fit the jar.
Salvation Army, other thrift stores, garage sales, etc are good places to find jars of all sizes cheap!
